Collection: O My Bag

O My Bag’s purpose is to produce bags that not only make you look good, but that also make a positive difference in the world. By making well made and eco friendly leather bags and accessories available to consumers, they provide small communities in India with a sustainable livelihood. They’ve concluded that supporting conscious trade is the best way to alleviate poverty, and it’s what they get up for in the mornings. Eco-Friendly Leather: They try to have a minimum environmental impact and therefore only use a natural vegetable tanning process without the use of harmful chemicals like chromium. This makes the leather biodegradable. It will age beautifully over time the more you use it. It deepens in color, gets softer, and develops a nice sheen. Local cow hides from Kolkata, India and Italy are used. The hides are a waste product from the meat industry and therefore not raised for the fashion industry. No use of any alternative synthetic materials that are called vegan leather alternatives. These alternatives are mostly made from PU, PVC or other composite microfibres, which produce many harmful toxins in the production process and don’t fully biodegrade. Also these alternatives will never last as long or age and develop over time. They make an effort to design timeless pieces that you can carry and cherish for years. Organic Cotton: The Canvas Collection and all linings of the leather goods are made from GOTS certificated cotton. GOTS certified cotton is an organic cotton that is grown without any harmful pesticides or fertilizers, to preserve soil health. During the dyeing process, no heavy chemicals are used. The GOTS certification also guarantees fair trade conditions. All employees work in a safe and healthy environment and they earn living wages. The dust bags that come with every product are as well made with organic cotton. Since 2018 the cotton for our lining and dust bags all comes from the Anandi Eco-Farm project which works with farmers from the Tamil Nadu district, India. This project provides non-GMO seeds, technical support, training on organic production and advises how to protect the local environment and health within their communities. https://www.omybag.nl
