fair: we pay reasonable prices for our items and we want everything produced, where good working conditions for employees through the whole production process can be ensured. We prefer local producers, where we can easily check how everything is done.
organic: we use certified organic materials which are made in a non-toxic way (low chemical input at fiber production, finishing and dyeing)
we do not like mass production: every production run is limited to a certain number (maximum 50 pieces of one item in one fabric) to make sure that each customer keeps his and her individual look in all its single components.
we work waste aware: most format items are 100 percent cotton, silk, viscose, hemp or anything else, to make sure that recycling will be possible after use. And of course: in our studio we recycle and avoid as much waste as possible.
format makes relaxed fashionable products in Berlin and stands for design as a given part of everyday-live. Since fall 2008 Mareike Ulman and the format family bring their ideas of a fair fashion world into being. Natural and environmentally-healthy materials, ecologically or with Cradle to Cradle® principles produced are the base to work with. format always looks for interesting options to cooperate with events, artists and people in general who like this way, too.
The format collection is partly independent from seasons: well accepted products stay while they will be complemented by new pieces.
The changes of fashionable affairs are less and less evoked by fashion conventions, dictates, forecasts or predictions. The always new product becomes an empty covering, whose consumption nobody needs or even wants any longer. The chance lies in the consumers freedom to decide consciously for items which individually enrich their lives and looks.
